چکیده

Ontology development is time and money consuming as well as an error-prone process; the need for an embedded mechanism that evaluates quality and acceptance of the resultant collaborative ontology is apparent. Existing tools and methodologies lack consensus building mechanisms that must be employed in order for a team to cooperate and agree on the design and deployment process of a shared one. In this paper we describe a collaborative methodology for ontology development that supports a team to reach consensus through iterative evaluations and improvements. In every cycle of the iterative process, the structure of the collaborative ontology is revised and evolved. Finally, the process terminates when the participants have no more critiques and objections. We illustrate the methodology by creating an ontology for an airline training centre using the PROTÉGÉ software tool.

Short-Term Semantic Consensus: Towards Agile Ontology Specification for Collaborative Networks

This paper presents our method to support the collaborative conceptualisation process focusing our strategy for building consensus in the context of collaborative networks. This new strategy comes from the application of the results and recommendations obtained in an experimental evaluation performed in the scope of a large European project in the area of industrial engineering. The usage of ou...

Ontology Maturing with Lightweight Collaborative Ontology Editing Tools

Ontology building is an important prerequisite for state-ofthe-art semantic technologies for knowledge worker support. But ontology engineering methods have so far neglected the early phase of ontology building where a conceptualization only exists rather informally and undergoes continuous evolution through collaboration and interaction within the community. We have to view ontology building a...

C-ODO: an OWL Meta-model for Collaborative Ontology Design

The design and maintenance of ontologies is a complex social collaborative activity, and this is true especially for semantic-web ontologies. On the one hand, such activity calls for the availability of tools providing support to typical operations such as the reuse of existing ontologies and design patterns, the re-engineering of thesauri, lexicons, folksonomies, database schemas, and knowledg...

myOntology: The Marriage of Ontology Engineering and Collective Intelligence

Despite very active research on ontologies, only few useful ontologies can be found on the Web. The reasons for this are manifold, but a major obstacle is that ontology engineering environments impose high entrance barriers on users, and that the community does not have control over the ontology evolution. Wikis are a way to allow a wide range of users to contribute to Web representations witho...

Ontology Maturing: a Collaborative Web 2.0 Approach to Ontology Engineering

Most of the current methodologies for building ontologies rely on specialized knowledge engineers. This is in contrast to real-world settings, where the need for maintenance of domain specific ontologies emerges in the daily work of users. But in order to allow for participatory ontology engineering, we need to have a more realistic conceptual model of how ontologies develop in the real world. ...
